Molybdenum Fertilizer for Crop Nutrition

What molybdenum does in plants

Molybdenum is part of enzymes that convert nitrate into forms plants can use. In legumes it also supports the nitrogen-fixation process. Crop requirements are very small, so molybdenum generally appears in carefully balanced multi-nutrient formulations.

Recognizing a possible deficiency

Molybdenum deficiency can resemble nitrogen deficiency, including general paling, reduced growth, or poor nodulation in legumes. Some crops develop distinctive leaf distortion, but laboratory analysis is the better basis for a recommendation.

Conditions that affect availability

Acidic soils where molybdenum availability declines
Highly weathered or leached soils
Fields with poor liming history

Application considerations
